Today, the OpenClaw Foundation has released an official iPadOS and iOS app for its popular OpenClaw AI assistant.

OpenClaw is an open-source AI agent that runs locally on your own machine (MacOS, Windows or Linux) and acts as a proactive personal assistant. With its local access, it’s able to do things like schedule calendar appointments or send emails on your behalf. You can also connect it to cloud-based AI like Claude or ChatGPT.

It’s unlikely that OpenClaw will ever be able to run natively on your iPad or iPhone. iPadOS and iOS restrict the background processing as well as unconstrained access to sensitive data, like email, that OpenClaw needs to be useful. This official client connects to OpenClaw running on your machine and lets you do things like chat with your agent, approve sensitive actions, and send data to your OpenClaw, like photos or videos, from your tablet.

The initial onboarding screens made me think this was another blown up iPhone app, but once you get into it, you get a familiar, sidebar-based layout that feels more like a proper iPad app. And it even resizes to boot!

The OpenClaw app is available now in the App Store.
