The second beta of iPadOS 27 was released today for registered developers. From a new feature perspective, this is a smaller beta release, which, given that iPadOS 27 is more about stability, should perhaps be expected.

Here’s a running list of what’s new in beta 2:

Updated PIN pad for Software Updates

This is technically a beta 1 feature. I’m sure we’ve all experienced going into Settings to do an OS update, tapping the update button, then seeing the modal for entering your passcode come up, briefly showing the full keyboard before sluggishly transitioning to the keypad.

In iPadOS 27, the passcode entry modal shows up with the PIN pad immediately displayed. No more awkward context switching.

Write With Siri

Write with Siri is now available on the software keyboard, replacing the system level Writing Tools extension.

Instead of the dedicated panel with specific writing prompts built in, Write With Siri invokes Siri AI with the context of the text you’re working on, to let you prompt for exactly the type of changes you’re looking for.

“Search” in Screenshot UI retitled “Image Search”

There’s a small label change for the button that triggers Visual Intelligence, going from “Search” to “Visual Search”.

Expressive Siri Voice Options are “Coming Soon”

The customizable, more expressive Siri options that are available for iPads with an M4 chip and newer and 12 GB of RAM or more were available in beta 1, but not working. In beta 2, those options are now labeled “coming soon”.
