Back in December 2025, I was made aware of the existence of a tablet-optimized version of the popular CapCut mobile editing app called CapCut Pad. However, it seemed to have only been made available in select regions, like Indonesia. The rest of us were stuck with the existing “blown up phone app” version of CapCut that still exists on the App Store today.

Alongside the announcement of CapCut Pad for Android tablets, the iPadOS app has now been made available in the US.

The first thing you’ll notice when you download the app, which is free, is how much it feels like a desktop editor. In terms of touch friendliness, it leans much closer to DaVinci Resolve than Final Cut Pro or LumaFusion. The controls feel tiny, but so far I’ve been able to tap everything successfully.

Key Features

Key features as detailed by the App Store listing:

  • Basic editing: trim, split, merge, speed control (0.1x–100x), freeze frame, and transitions
  • Advanced editing: multi-track timeline, keyframe animation, optical flow slow motion, chroma key, and stabilization
  • AI features: auto captions, text-to-speech in multiple languages, and one-click background removal
  • Effects & filters: weekly-updated trending styles plus Glitch, Blur, and 3D effects
  • Text & stickers: diverse fonts, creative templates, and timeline-editable subtitles
  • Music & sound: add tracks, sound effects, or extract audio from existing footage
  • Export & sharing: up to 4K 60fps with Smart HDR, direct sharing to TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook

Free to Download, But With Limits

Like the phone version, CapCut Pad is free, but the usual freemium rules apply. Certain advanced and AI features require a CapCut Pro subscription, starting at around $10/month (pricing is only shown inside the app itself).

Minimum Requirements

There’s surprisingly little detail in the minimum requirements sections in both app stores. For an app that boasts being able to export 8K video, you’d think they want to exclude some lower-end models, but kudos to the developers if they made their app scalable across a wide range of devices.

iPad: Requires iPadOS 14.0 or later.

Android: Requires Android 8.0 and newer.

Where to Get It

CapCut Pad is available for Android users on the Google Play Store, and iPadOS users in the App Store.
