Apple released iPadOS 15.8.7 and iOS 15.8.7 for devices that aren’t able to update past iPadOS 15 or iOS 15. This applies to iPads like the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini (4th generation).
This software update fixes vulnerabilities in both the Kernel and WebKit itself, the foundational technology that powers web content on Apple devices. Together, they help address the Coruna exploit, which has already been addressed for newer devices.
What is Coruna?
Coruna is an exploit kit that chains together a number of different individual vulnerabilities to gain kernel-level access to the devices. Its use appears to be geared towards stealing on-device crypto wallet data and other financial information.
While most users are unlikely to actually encounter this exploit in the world, it’s still best practice to update your devices quickly as security updates are made available.
