Image with arrow pointing to sender contact photo in a Mail message
Looking to get rid of this?

iPadOS 18.4 brought the improved Mail app features from the iPhone to the iPad. One of the improvements was the addition of contact photos for senders. These photos are pulled from:

  • Contact photos you’ve set in Contacts app
  • Verified Band Logos
  • Generic category icons based on sender and message content (for example: travel, shopping, etc…)

This feature is on by default, but may not be for everyone. Luckily, toggling this feature on or off is pretty simple.

For users on iPadOS 18.4 (or newer):

  • Go to the Settings App -> Apps -> Mail
  • Toggle “Show Contact Photos” on or off. You should see this immediately reflected in the iPad Mail app.

At this time, there’s no way to selectively enable or disable sender photos per account, so this setting applies to all accounts in the Mail app.
