In a report published today, Bloomberg provided some updated timing for the remaining iPads that were expected to be launched in 2026.

OLED iPad Mini in 2026

Some reports have waffled between the new iPad Mini coming out in late 2026 or 2027, but the Bloomberg report confirms that we should expect to see the new Mini by October.

As expected, the hallmark feature will be the move to an OLED display for Apple’s smallest tablet. Other reports in the past couple of weeks have confirmed that despite the updated display tech, the Mini’s display will remain locked at 60Hz.

This was rumored years ago in a report from analyst firm DSCC. The report is the basis for my saying the OLED iPad Air next year will also keep its 60Hz refresh rate, but I would love to be wrong.

12th Generation iPad in 2027

The next update to the standard iPad was widely expected earlier this year when the iPad Air got updated, but it seems like Apple has decided to move its release to “as early as the first calendar quarter next year”.

It’s been reported that the hardware is already done, so it’s not clear why there’s such a delay. I can’t help but wonder if this is somehow related to rising component costs, which caused the company to raise its prices on many of its products a few weeks ago.

And the Rest…

The iPad Air, which now appears to be on a yearly release cadence, is expected to see an update in 2027 which should bring its own OLED display upgrade, and presumably, a move to the M5 chip.

The iPad Pro, following its standard 18-month release cycle, should also see an update in early 2027. The only rumors we’ve seen so far are an expected update to the M6 chip and the inclusion of a vapor chamber, similar to the iPhone 17 Pro. No design changes are expected.

Bonus: Apple Pencil

A recent rumor suggests that we may see an update to both the Apple Pencil (USB-C) and the Apple Pencil Pro in 2027. It’s been suggested the only improvements we’ll see are a slight redesign to both to accommodate replaceable batteries to comply with EU law. It’s not impossible that there could be other new features as well. I continue to hold out hope for the black Apple Pencil.
