On Monday, Apple released the second developer beta of iPadOS 26.4.

iPadOS 26.4 Beta 2

While there were a few small new things, this beta feels more like bug fixes and behind-the-scenes work. It was also a little over 1GB in size on my M1 iPad Pro, which is the smallest beta I can remember in recent memory .

Anywho, here’s what’s been noted to be new:

System Updates

Liquid Glass Edit Menu on Home Screen

The edit button that shows up when you enter jiggle mode on your home screen now has a menu that has a heavier Liquid Glass effect applied to it. Depending on your preferences, this is either a very good thing, or more bad piled on top of the bad (I’m generally a fan).

Reduce Highlighting Effects

Reduce Highlighting Effects Option in Settings

There’s a new option in Accessibility > Display & Text Size that purports to disable the highlighting effects, presumably on app icons. So far, I can’t tell any difference, but I may just be less sensitive to this effect.

App Updates

Bug Fixes

  • In beta 1, for whatever reason, Safari would lock up my iPad Air that is on the 26.4 public beta. As in, couldn’t open or swipe to another app, I was stuck in Safari. I had to use Siri to restart the iPad. If you were encountering this issue, it seems to be resolved in this newest beta.
  • I had no idea there was a “What’s new in Display & Text Size… “ link in the Accessibility section of settings. Which means I also didn’t know that, at least on my 11-inch iPad Pro (running 26.3), the text here wasn’t displaying correctly. That seems to be resolved on the new beta, and may have been resolved in the previous beta.
String display error in Display and Text Size “what’s new?” screen.
