iPadOS 26.4.2

Apple today released iPadOS 26.4.2 with a privacy-related bug fix.

It turns out, there was a logging issue in Notification Services where notifications marked for deletion could be unexpectedly retained on the device. According to MacRumors’ reporting, this affected the popular encrypted messaging app Signal, if your device was set to show message previews on the lock screen. Because push notifications happen at the operating system level, there’s not really anything an individual app could do to prevent this data leakage.

For users on iPadOS 18, Apple has also released iPadOS 18.7.8 with the same bug fix.

Apple says the problem was resolved with improved data redaction.

If you’re on a supported device, head to Settings > General > Software Update and get it installed.
