Apple has released iPadOS 27.2 for all eligible iPads. It’s the first feature update since iPadOS 27, and it follows the numbering for iOS, where 27.1 is an iPhone Duo-only release.
Here’s what’s new on iPad in this release.
Siri AI Improvements

Siri AI sees some significant improvements in this release.
The headline feature is memory: Siri can now recall things from earlier conversations, so you can ask about something it told you before, like restaurant recommendations from last week.
Siri AI can also pull from more of your personal context. That now includes photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, voicemails, and your Safari history and Reading List. I’m especially happy to see this, as it shows that we won’t be waiting until WWDC every year for Apple to continue to iterate on Siri.
On the other side of the coin, there’s a new Excluded Apps setting for Siri AI (Settings > Siri > Excluded Apps). It controls which apps Siri, Search, and suggestions can access.
A couple of smaller touches round it out. You can now select and copy just part of a Siri response instead of the whole thing. As someone trying to use Siri for proofreading blog posts, this has been killing me. I don’t always need the full response.
Siri AI now supports French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish.
Siri Popup for Selected Text

If you select text using a trackpad or mouse, a small Siri icon now appears next to the selection. Hover over it and it expands into an “Ask Siri” field, with quick options like Proofread, Rewrite, and “How does this sound?”
This is the same popup from macOS 27. If you’re using touch, you can still get to Siri from the edit menu.
Easier Side-by-Side Multitasking

When you tile an app to the left or right using the window controls or menu bar, you can now easily pick a second app to fill the other side. I wrote up how it works in more detail here.
Double-Tap to Zoom Windows

There’s also a new “Double-tap Top of Window to Zoom” option in Settings > Multitasking & Gestures. With it turned on, double-tapping the top of a window zooms it to fill the screen, much like double-clicking a title bar on the Mac or pressing the green (maximize) button in the window controls.
Messages Suggestions Return

Suggestions, which Apple pulled just before iPadOS 27 shipped, is back in Messages. It suggests actions based on the context of your conversation, like adding a Calendar invite when someone mentions dinner plans.
Profiles in the Apple TV App

The Apple TV app now supports profiles, so everyone sharing an iPad gets their own recommendations. You’ll see a profile picker when you open the app, just like on Apple TV 4K, and child profiles respect the content restrictions you’ve set.
Shared Album Improvements
Shared Albums in Photos now let you edit captions and comments, and Photos will help you avoid adding duplicate photos. Albums can also show a reminder before they expire, so participants have a chance to save anything important.
SynthID Watermarking Support
Photos and Image Playground now support SynthID watermarking, which helps identify whether an image was generated or modified with generative tools.
New Sections in Podcasts

The Home tab in Podcasts is now split into New Episodes and Continue Playing sections. That makes it easier to spot new releases from your shows and pick up where you left off.
Friends Tab Updates in Games
The Friends tab in the Games app now explains why it’s suggesting someone to you. Friends’ player pages also show the games they’ve played recently.
Interpreters and Captioners in FaceTime
FaceTime now supports adding a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call.
New Apple Music Icon

Easily the most visible and contentious change of this release, the Music app has a new black-and-white icon. It shows a black logo on white in light mode and flips to white on black in dark mode.
Even after the visual shock of this change has worn off, I find myself missing the more colorful app icons of prior releases.
Smart Lock Automations in Home
The Home app adds new automation controls for compatible smart locks.
Expanded Tracking Prompt in the EU
If you’re in the EU, you may see an expanded App Tracking Transparency prompt when an app asks to track you.
