Apple has released iPadOS 16.7.14 alongside iOS 16.7.14, delivering an important fix for older iPads and iPhones following last week’s certificate update.
With iPadOS 16.7.13 and iOS 16.7.13, Apple pushed a new security certificate to ensure older devices could continue accessing services like FaceTime and iMessage. While the update seemingly accomplished that goal, it also introduced an unexpected for iPhone users.
It’s been reported that some iPhone users in Australia were unable to place emergency calls to 911 after the update. iOS 16.7.14 resolves this issue, restoring proper emergency calling functionality. While it’s unclear whether cellular-capable iPads were affected, Apple has included them in the update as well.
The update is available for the following devices:
iPhones
- iPhone 8
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone X
iPads
- iPad (5th generation)
- iPad Pro (9.7-inch)
- iPad Pro (12.9-inch, 1st generation)
If you’re still using one of these older devices, this is a recommended update, especially given the nature of the fix.
