Update 05/15/25 – MacRumors is reporting that this update has been pulled due to issues around staying logged into apps.
Alongside iPadOS 18.5, Apple has also released iPadOS 17.7.7 for older iPads. This update specifically applies to the iPad Pro 12.9-inch 2nd generation, iPad Pro 10.5-inch, and iPad 6th generation.

This update includes many of the bug fixes in iPadOS 18.5, as well as some unique ones, including:
- AirDrop: Addressed a permissions issue to prevent apps from reading arbitrary file metadata.
- Audio: Fixed a double free issue to prevent unexpected system termination.
- Display: Resolved a memory corruption issue to prevent system termination.
- • Parental Controls: Added entitlement checks to prevent apps from retrieving Safari bookmarks without authorization.
- Sandbox Profiles: Implemented additional restrictions to prevent apps from reading persistent device identifiers.
- StoreKit: Enhanced data redaction in logs to protect sensitive user data.
- Weather: Removed sensitive data to prevent malicious apps from accessing location information.
While it’s best practice to install security fixes ASAP, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that this release only came to my attention because I saw people complaining about it on social media. For some, the update apparently “breaks everything”, so you may want to give it a few days and see if these issues are more widespread.
