Filed firmly under “didn’t expect this to ever happen”, version 13.4.0.41 of the Snapchat app adds native support for iPad. Certain notable social media companies (Instagram) seem to have trouble figuring out iPad support, so Snap deserves some kudos for this update.

But before you get too excited, this isn’t exactly what I would call robust support for iPadOS. Mainly because the app is locked in portrait orientation. Unsurprisingly, there’s no support for Split View, Slide Over, or Stage Manager. Which makes it quite literally a blown up phone app, only slightly better than using the iPhone app in compatibility mode.

The last time I tried Snapchat on iPad, it was with Snapchat web which should be at least usable. At the time, I don’t think it had notification support, which made it a non starter for me. I don’t think this app update will nudge me towards using Snapchat on my iPad (looks extra ridiculous on the 13 inch iPads btw), but Snap gets at least a little credit for the effort here.
