ZBrush, a popular desktop digital sculpting application, is now generally available for iPadOS. Announced during Apple’s “Let Loose” iPad event, ZBrush has been in beta since Spring 2024.
The app has been reimagined with a touch first user interface, and support for Apple Pencil support, including double tap and squeeze support.
The ZBrush site mentions that many key features have been brought over from the desktop version including PolyPaint, which allows sculpting and painting at the same time, and Live Boolean, which allows you to perform real-time Boolean operations with subtools.
Another feature worth highlighting is that the iPadOS app supports up to 92,000 polygons per mesh, depending on how much memory your iPad has. So as I’ve said before, yes, apps can take advantage of the extra memory in the higher end iPads. This is more proof.
If you’re a subscriber to ZBrush or Maxon One, you’re able to round trip ZTool and ZProject files between iPad and Desktop.
ZBrush for iPad is available in the App Store for iPads running iPadOS 17 or later with an A12 Bionic chip or newer. The app requires a subscription, but offers a free tier with a limited feature set that allows you to try things out.
