While the software story on Android tablets still isn’t great, some OEMs continue to deliver amazing-looking hardware. Case in point, the recently announced Honor MagicPad 4.

Honor MagicPad 4

The most impressive feature of Honor’s forthcoming tablet, at least to me, is that it will come in at a scant 4.8 mm thin, slightly under the 13-inch iPad Pro’s 5.1mm thickness.

If you remember, the larger iPad Pro was announced as Apple’s thinnest product ever, so it’s impressive to see a competitor come out with a tablet that’s even thinner.

And that’s not the only advantage this tablet has over the iPad Pro. The MagicPad 4 has two additional speakers, for a total of 8, and an OLED display with a marginally higher max refresh rate of 165 hz, vs 120 hz on the iPad Pro.

I’m not super familiar with the Honor’s products, as they don’t seem to make it to the US for reasons, I’m sure. But from this look of things, this device will be an option for users in Europe and Asia.

With such a massive lead in software and apps, it’s unclear if Apple views Honor and products like these as iPad competitors. I hope that someone at Apple keeps tabs on other premium tablets, because you can never really rest on your laurels in the fast moving mobile space.
