Apple has released a new press release highlighting upcoming programming for its Apple Fitness+ service. The announcement also references new findings from Apple’s long-running Apple Heart and Movement Study.

Based on data collected over four years from approximately 100,000 participants, Apple Watch users tend to maintain higher activity levels beyond “Quitter’s Day,” which is apparently the second Friday in January. I knew people often give up on their fitness resolutions early, but I didn’t realize there was an official day for it. Yikes.

During the first two weeks of January, more than 60 percent of Apple Watch users significantly increased their daily exercise minutes by over 10 percent compared to their December average. Many users continued to maintain these elevated activity levels even after Quitter’s Day and throughout the following months.

Nearly 80 percent of participants who increased their exercise minutes after the holidays sustained those higher levels through the second half of January, with 90 percent of that group continuing to stay more active through February and March.

Strava Challenge

For the first time, Apple Watch users can also take part in a special “Quit Quitting” challenge in the Strava app. By logging 12 workouts at any point during the month of January, participants can unlock a dedicated Apple Watch badge in Strava.

New Content for Fitness+

Starting January 5, Apple Fitness+ will begin rolling out new content aimed at helping users build and maintain healthy routines.

Four new multiweek programs are launching, including:

  • Make Your Fitness Comeback, a four-week plan featuring short Strength, HIIT, and Yoga workouts
  • Build a Yoga Habit in 4 Weeks, focused on flexibility, stress reduction, and consistency
  • Back-to-Back Strength and HIIT, designed for higher-intensity training
  • Strength Basics in 3 Weeks, aimed at building foundational strength

Fitness+ is also refreshing the Artist Spotlight series with new workouts featuring full playlists from KAROL G and Bad Bunny.

Time to Walk (which I actually enjoyed when I was a Fitness+ subscriber) is also being updated with new episodes featuring Penn Badgley, Mel B, and Michelle Monaghan.

Full details on everything coming to Apple Fitness+ can be found in this Apple Newsroom post.
