iPadOS 26.2 RC

The release candidate build of iPadOS 26.2 has now been released for developer testing.

iPadOS 26.2 brings a big improvement to multitasking by restoring the ability to drag apps into Split View and Slide Over. A persistent complaint from iPadOS users was how the new windowing system in iPadOS 26 prioritized mouse and keyboard use over traditional touch interactions.

Apple has been relatively quickly addressing these concerns. With iPadOS 26.1, they brought back a version of Slide Over. Now with drag and drop multitasking, users that prefer the iPadOS 18 style of multitasking can get even closer to recreating those workflows.

Other new features in iPadOS 26.2 include Automatic chapters in the Podcast app, and a slider for controlling the opacity of some Liquid Glass elements.

Barring any major issues, this is more or less the build that will be released to the public next week.
