The Apple Pencil Pro introduced a number of improvements over the previous generation Apple Pencil 2. One of the big ones is support for Apple’s Find My network. This is a great addition because even though the Apple Pencil can attach magnetically to an iPad, it is still incredibly easy to lose in a bag or in the couch cushions.
Here’s how you get it setup with Find My:
Note: The Apple Pencil Pro is compatible with:
- iPad Pro (M4)
- iPad Air (M2, M3)
- iPad Mini (A17 Pro)
To start, open the Find My App. The Apple Pencil Pro gets added under the “Devices” section. Tap the + button at the top of the list.
Tap “Add Apple Pencil”.

Follow the instructions and connect the Pencil to the side of the iPad

Tap “Add Pencil”

That’s it! Your Apple Pencil Pro should now be added to Find My! I’ll note that the first time I connected my Pencil, the process errored out several times, so if you’re running into issues, just keep repeating the same steps and it should eventually work.

From the Find My app, you can now:
- Tap “Find” and follow the on screen instructions to guide you to the vicinity of your lost Pencil.
- Mark the Pencil as lost so that it can optionally display your contact info if someone else finds its and connects it to their iPad.
